The Only Coffee that I can drink "black". Strong, yet not bitter.
I hadn't had this type of coffee in about 20 years. But, the Bustelo (the only coffee I drink for the past 25 years!) was sold out, so I bought this one. It's really great! It's really strong, but the chicory gives it a mellow quality so it's not bitter. (I'm an herbalist, so I appreciate the presence of chicory as well!) I had to learn how to make it properly so I didn't need so much cream to lighten it- but I found that it's really delicious black. It's the only coffee that I can drink without cream. I've bought it twice, now! Am waiting for it to get restocked so I can buy it again!

French Market is how you know the Universe loves us and wants us to be happy!!
My mother-in-law introduced me to this coffee when I was in my early twenties ... I am now 58 ... French Market Chicory Dark Roast ... still the only coffee I drink! The first time someone asked me to describe this coffee to them I said, " when I added a half a teaspoon sugar to the first cup of this coffee, I swear to God, it took at least 30 seconds for my spoon to fall to the side of my cup! This coffee is rich and thick ... not for the faint of heart ... but ... for those who have a passionate strong love of the "Joe"💟

French Market Coffee and Chicory Dark Roast
Truly excellent, I usually purchase the brand of chicory coffee that has the name associated with the cafe in New Orleans, but as a fan of dark roast coffee and chicory I had to try this version. Instructions on the coffee can state to use 1/2 to 3/4 tablespoon per cup (6 ounce cup used for measure by most coffee makers). I usually use one tablespoon per cup so the first pot I brewed was too strong, and I prefer a strong cup.Experimenting I finally found a little more than 1/2 tablespoon, almost half what I use with other coffees, was just right. Obviously each person should test to find the correct measure to satisfy their taste, but the point is that this twelve ounce can goes further than the same amount of regular coffee because less is needed.I hoped to reorder more but it is currently unavailable in prime pantry. Have trouble finding it locally, so I will check back.Update 2/13/16 -- As a substitute I tried the medium-dark roast and it is just as excellent as the dark roast.

Shipping Empty Cans
French Market coffee used to come 16 oz in a can. A couple of years ago, they started putting only 12 oz in the SAME CAN! I suppose this little deception was intended to make me think I was getting a bargain. I'm not that dumb, but I do like the coffee, so I have continued to buy it, although i do sometimes wonder what other short cuts they are taking. But realize now that every time I order a dozen cans from Amazon, the 144 oz of coffee that I'm getting would have fitted into 9 of the 12 cans it came in. . . SO I AM PAYING TO BUY AND SHIP 3 EMPTY CANS! This is not only sleazy, but I can't think it's a good deal for either me, or French Market, or Amazon.Maybe you can convince the coffee company to grow up and put 16 ounces in a 16 ounce can!R. Surprise!! it increases in volume?
OK, so I had tried this coffee "blend" quite a while ago but recently decided to give it a try once again having forgotten why I had ever ceased buying it. So here's the Story:I bought it this time thinking it would add some unusual but tasty "flavor" to my daily Brew. I've had better ideas. As I began drinking the 1st Cup of my nu mix, I realized what I had forgotten sometime ago: it doesn't add anything to the coffee that wins me over, and too, I don't care for it one way or the other brewed alone. It's not awful, just not worth the time or expen$e to mix it in. Also, brewed alone, it doesn't win or WoW! me either. But,...here's something I discovered this time around. Deciding to make a 10-cup pot in my coffee machine, I split the amount of Coffee & Coffee-Chickory 50-50. When the coffee maker had completed it's task I lifted the lid of the brewing compartment and discovered that the 50-50 mix had expanded greatly, rising to the very top of the Brewing Basket. I picked out some of the pieces of Chickory that looked and felt like the wood it comes from. I believe that if I had used the Chickory alone, in a large volume, the result might have overflowed the Basket. Well, maybe not so dramatic...but still. Anyway,...as for me, I don't find it Special enuf to be bothered with it in the future. You might feel differently but at least now you've been forewarned:)

Best coffee ever!
Full bodied robust flavor that you would expect from New Orleans, at a great price! Very smooth coffee with no bitterness! You only need very little of it to get a nice dark Rich flavored coffee!

I like this now and again
Every few years I get to jonesin' for Chicory coffee. We had chicory coffee when I was in the shipyard @ Newport News. Nothing I love, but it's fun flavor. And I like the sturdy can when I grind me up a half pound of Espresso beans.

Amazon Food Pantry Fail
Great coffee and great price, but it was so poorly packaged that two cans are nearly unusable! If this is what Amazon Pantry is all about, it’s gonna be a failure.
