Survivor X fire starter is an excellent tool to keep in your camping backpack or survival gear. It is really small and lightweight and fits in a pocket easily. I submerged it in a glass of water and noticed no leaks and the cotton stayed dry even though there is no rubber ring on the end where the cotton is stored.I actually used a regular cotton ball as a test so that I would not waste the included cotton. I pulled it apart in little pieces to allow airflow through it. I also found that scraping the black protective coating off with sandpaper was much quicker than using the side of the included metal scraper. After the coating was off it was very easy to make sparks and they are bright and hot sparks. After only about three tries I was able to light the cotton ball on fire. This tool will work best with shredded dried grass or some kind of fluffy tinder like dried thin bark strips. For leaves it will take a little more work to light them so having the included cotton will make starting a fire quick work. For the price this tool is an excellent deal.The starter stick is actually removable so I am hoping to order a few replacement starter sticks to refill this in the future. This is a great little fire starting tool that works great and provides consistent sparks. I received this product at a discount or for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. Quality materials and sturdy construction. It a nice smalle kit about the size of a pen.

I love the size of this fire starter pen. It is black compact and comes with a clip on the end. It arrived packaged very nicely. Perfect for a gift. I bought 2 and one of the metal clips was bent and they refunded my money right away. And I had just asked for a replacement. Great customer service & product. That's a rare commodity nowadays.

While i haven't actually used this product as of yet, I am pleased with the construction and the small form factor. Bought two for some small go-bags, they fit well. Assuming it works as described I will not be disappointed.

striker is small, rod is too small, not that usable. the price is high for it.

Haven't had a chance to put it to use yet. Very impressed with the build quality so far (especially at that price).

So handy in an emergency bag. So much fun to play with. All the guys got one for Christmas.
